The Walking Dead: World Beyond is back! And… it still isn’t very good. Not to worry, though, since the only way to go from here is up, and if nothing else there are still some interesting ideas here that might well be unpacked enough to give some more context to the wider Walking Dead universe. We can hope, anyway. Will The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2, episode 2, “Foothold”, get us going in the right direction? That remains to be seen. But here’s where we are for now:

  • Hope has willingly agreed to accompany Elizabeth and Huck to the facility where her father is being held, but she’s still not entirely sold on the idea of working with these people, even after an ill-advised “field trip” that Elizabeth sent her on for basically no reason whatsoever.
  • The CRM deliberately destroyed both the Omaha and Campus colonies and have covered it up, and they’re clearly working on a couple of other big plans that are top-secret.
  • Will survived the culling at Campus after asking too many questions and drawing too much attention to himself, escaping from his own execution attempt and settling at an artist colony dubbed “The Perimeter”, which is led by a council, the chief of which is Indira, who has a cozy arrangement with the CRM that she’s putting at risk by taking in its most sought-after enemies.
  • Iris has figured out the depths of the CRM’s corruption and took her first step to embarking on a revenge-fuelled killing spree.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2, episode 2 release date

“Foothold” is slated to release on October 10, 2021, at 9 pm ET, on AMC. The new episode has already premiered on AMC+ on October 3, 2021, since the streaming service is making new episodes available a week in advance.

Where to watch “Foothold” online

The most efficient for die-hard fans is, obviously, an AMC+ subscription, which allows you to view the episode a week before everyone else. Using AMC’s app or website, the episode can be live-streamed at the date and time above when it officially airs, and anyone else can access the episode via a litany of live TV streaming platforms such as SpectrumSling TVDirecTVFubo TVPhilo TVXfinityApple TV, and YouTube TV.

Predictions based on the previous episode

There might be some stuff to look forward to in this second season, even if the premiere left a bad impression. Here are some things we may or may not see in “Foothold”:

  • Hope will likely continue to acclimate to her new environment. I assume she’ll be happy to see her dad, but whether he remains a real ally or not remains to be seen. The same can be said of Huck. Hope will inevitably plan to run interference from inside.
  • Will Iris’s decision to kill the CRM soldier have repercussions? Almost certainly, but maybe not in this episode. She can probably cover it up and continue to snoop around for an episode or two, until the stakes are a little higher. We’ve only met one person at the Perimete (two if you include Will), so we need some more familiarity if killing any of them off is going to matter.
  • I expect we’ll see Silas, as well as Elton and Percy in this episode, since they didn’t feature at all in the premiere.
  • Will we see the return of Pollyanna Macintosh’s Jadis? She’s confirmed to appear in this season, but perhaps not as early as the second episode. Time will tell.
