For much of its runtime, “Retired Janitors of Idaho” sidelined Logan Roy and forced his frantic children to make decisions in his stead. It was, predictably, a disaster. Not the episode itself, of course — that was brilliant. But Waystar was not in good hands, and on the cusp of the annual shareholder meeting, it was the very worst time for mismanagement. Before we get into speculating about Succession season 3, episode 6, titled “What It Takes”, here’s where we are as of right now:

  • Thanks to neglecting his medication for a urinary tract infection, Logan ended up totally delirious, unable to guide his family in handling the tricky optics of the shareholder meeting.
  • In Logan’s absence, both Shiv and Kendall tried to solve things in their own way, only leading to further disaster.
  • After going back and forth about whether or not to accept the terms proposed by Sandy and Stewy, some of which were needlessly petty, Shiv added a sweetener to Sandy’s daughter, Sandi, in the form of two additional board seats — one for the pair of them.
  • Logan, having regained his faculties, fundamentally disapproved of Shiv’s decision and completely humiliated her when she tried to return like a conquering hero.
  • In the meantime, Kendall thoroughly embarrassed himself when he tried to hijack the speech at the shareholder meeting to pay tribute to the victims who died because of his family’s company, and ultimately had his mic cut off.

“What It Takes” predictions

The annual shareholders meeting obviously marked a major turning point in the ongoing Waystar saga, and it’s going to be very interesting to see how things progress from here. The power dynamics have changed somewhat, but ultimately, Logan remains in control — for now. Based both on the promo above and some logical speculation, here are some things that might happen in Succession season 3, episode 6:

  • Shiv is going to be very smug, and Logan isn’t going to like it.
  • Kendall is now running out of options and might feel the need to resort to drastic measures. The footage above suggests he might be contemplating some of the other illegalities that have occurred under Waystar’s auspices, and as we know, he’s very deeply involved in at least one of them. He won’t sacrifice himself to take his father down, though, surely?
  • Connor has had a bit more to do this season than in previous ones, and he’s coming into his own a bit now. We know he has had designs on the White House for a long time. With the President now out of the picture, or almost out, are the Roys going to try and plant their own candidate in there? And is that candidate going to be Connor?
