This article discusses the potential for The Coyotes Season 2 and contains some spoilers for the first season.

Netflix’s latest teen drama The Coyotes – or just Coyotes depending on where you are – comes courtesy of Belgium, and at just six episodes is a breezy binge-watch for the weekend crowd. Revolving around an eponymous group of Scouts who finds some diamonds in an underwater cave and quarrel about what to do with the loot, it’s a surprisingly complex show full of interpersonal dynamics, plot turns, and eventually quite a lot of death.

Of course, that’s a winning formula in the streaming market, so the question on the lips of anyone who enjoyed the series will doubtlessly be whether or not there will be a second season. But will there be?

Will there be a Season 2 of The Coyotes? Renewed or canceled status:

Renewal status: TBC

Almost certainly not. The Coyotes, which was developed by Axel du Bus de Warnaffe, Vincent Lavachery, Christophe Beaujean, and Anne-Lise Morin, and had a run on Belgium’s native network RTBF before being picked up internationally, was billed as a limited series by Netflix, and they’re usually pretty sturdy with that designation. There’s also the fact that the show ended fairly conclusively, taking its character arcs to logical endpoints and tying up the vast majority of the subplots. It doesn’t feel like the kind of show that needs a continuation.

It’ll depend, one assumes, on viewing figures. With the show having been released in its entirety on December 2, 2021, its success isn’t yet measurable on sites like Netflix Top 10, which tends to be a week or two behind. But with only six episodes, each with a runtime of 40-48 minutes each, audiences will rush through it, and we won’t have to wait long to see if it takes off. I suspect it won’t, but you never know.

Perhaps more to the point, I don’t think it should. The story works better as one with an ending; any lack of resolution regarding certain plot elements works as a fitting thematic payoff. Not every show needs to go on and on, after all, and I’d say this is one of them, though we’ll be sure to keep you updated if we learn anything different.

You can stream The Coyotes exclusively on Netflix.
