This article contains predictions for the Amazon series The Wheel of Time season 1, episode 8, “The Eye of the World.”

Finally, last week’s episode, “The Dark Along the Way”, began to show some real potential promise with its comparisons to Game of Thrones.

  • It was revealed in the last episode that Rand has concluded and confirmed by the Seer that he was the Dragon Reborn. He has flashes of evidence that it has to be him—his father’s admission. The city is in the distance. Breaking down the door, his father’s sword. It all adds up that he was the baby born by the pregnant warrior.
  • So, he does what all good heroes do. The honorable thing. He lets Moiraine know he is the one and cuts a deal. Leave tonight to spare and save his friends, especially Egwene. The last we see of them, they are walking through the Blight, a disgusting-looking forest filled with large dead trees, to get to the Eye of the World.

    Predictions for episode 8

So, we have finally done it! Rand is the Dragon Reborn! Or is he? It all seems too easy, right? Maybe. Let’s explore what may happen next week!

    • Is this one for Rosemund Pike’s Moiraine? She is the main subject of the first three books but then takes a back seat. Will they kill her character off to keep things fresh and fans guessing? Since I’m never tired of being wrong, look for our favorite Aes Sedai to sacrifice herself for the greater good.
  • We still don’t know why Mat stayed behind. What’s his play? Will we figure this out before the season’s end, or will this be saved for the sequel season (already announced and booked)? This may be a story arc caused by the recasting of actor Barney Harris for Dónal Finn. The show has been tightly guarded about the recasting and why. Perhaps this is a distraction or sleight of hand for Rosemund Pike being the one to go.
  • Is Perrin going to make a play for Egwene with Rand gone? He held a flame for her that caused issues with his marriage. Look for Perrin and Egwene to howl together.
  • Will Nynaeve and Egwene begin to harness their powers? Something tells me that they both will unite on the same Aes Sedai color or become mortal enemies.
  • Yet, we still need to talk about Lan and Nynaeve! Will Lan leave Moiraine to become Nynaeve’s Warder? But the profession demands they feel a connection to their Aes Sedai like no other (but at the end of episode six, it was Moiraine who seemed to harbor strong feelings for Lan). You can’t have it both ways.
  • Is Rand the Dragon Reborn? My money is on yes. Look for him to harness the power of the Eye and use this to empower his group to take down the Dark army.
