This article discusses whether there will be season 2 of the Amazon Prime Video series The Wheel of Time and its renewed or cancelled status.

It has been no surprise that The Wheel of Time is a huge hit for Amazon Prime Video. The Wheel of Time has not just been a huge success for the streaming giant, but one of the largest across all streaming platforms. That’s despite the powers that be deciding to have an erratic and inconsistent release of episodes since it went to a weekly series after initially releasing the first three episodes in November (Amazon would not give specifics, but the initial run had “tens of millions” of streams). Though, Amazon has not discussed if the show was sustaining that popularity over the first seven episodes

The Wheel of Time has two episodes left, with the finale ending on Friday, December 31st. So, the question remains, will there be a second season? Or a spectacular one-off for Amazon’s attempt at their first Game of Thrones?

Will there be a season 2 of The Wheel of Time – renewed or canceled status

Status: Yes! Season 2 is a go!

Spoiler alert! Amazon’s The Wheel of Time was given a second season renewal months before the initial airing. While there have been premature renewals being pulled, it appears Amazon has too much invested in the series to do that. For one, Amazon has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to acquire the rights to turn The Lord of the Rings into a scripted series.

Jeff Bezos wanted his own Game of Thrones for his portfolio. The Wheel of Time is much more Lord of the Rings than David Benioff’s series. I speculated that this show could be viewed as a test balloon on how to run and execute a fantasy series for success. Also, unlike their rival Netflix, Amazon Prime has a reputation for developing and renewing series. Where their rival uses the first season as a de facto pilot. And rarely does that streamer allow a show to go past season three.

So, the real question is, will they announce a season three just after the holidays?
