Amazon Prime’s programming executives do not mess around with decisions regarding The Wheel of Time season 2. Dónal Finn (How to Build a Girl), who has only seven credits to his name, has landed a prime role on the smash-hit Amazon Prime Video series! The prime part of Mat Cauthon, one of the potential Dragon Reborns who Moiraine says has darkness in him, has been recast with Finn in the role.

Initially reported by Deadline, it has remained unclear why Harris will not be returning or whose decision it came down to. Or if this could even be part of a revamped storyline — it is a magical world, after all.

Based on the book series by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time premiered on November 19th of this year. With an initial run of three episodes that garnered, per Amazon, millions of streams. The show was anticipated to be successful, and the second season was renewed months before the first season premiered. Led by Rosemund Pike, who plays the Blue Aes Sedai Moiraine, The Wheel of Time is about her journey to find the Dragon Reborn! She locates five individuals who, if the one is reincarnated, can save the world from the Dark Order or destroy it. The season finale is set to end on December 24th, streaming at midnight EST, with its eighth episode.

The last time we saw Barney Harris’s Mat Calhoun was at the end of the sixth episode. Titled “The Flame of Tar Valon,” we saw a bitter Mat who refused to step through the gate. Despite his friends coming and saving the word with them.

Harris has not made a public comment on the change since the announcement. Currently, he has no upcoming project, according to the website IMDb.

What do you think of the shocking move behind the recasting of the role of Mat? Why do you think it happened? Was it his choice? Let us know in the comments below!
