It’s the final month of the year, and K-Drama fans have been given one last treat on Netflix before the year ends. The Silent Sea season 1 marks a successful year for K-Drama on Netflix. Their weekly shows have massively grown in popularity, and then the record-breaking Squid Game arrived.
Of course, since Squid Game, no other K-Drama has managed to gain the same popularity, but they’ve given it ago with another binge-worthy series with the likes of Hellbound and D.P. Next on Friday to bow out 2021 was The Silent Sea, which had plenty of hype surrounding it.

Like all K-Drama series, there’s usually a lot of secrecy regarding renewals, leaving fans to work with whatever tidbits they can find on social media. The Silent Sea is currently not renewed for season 2, but that doesn’t mean there will not be. So let’s speculate.
First of all, K-Drama is having ALOT of success on Netflix in the last few years, and the binge model release is just as popular as the weekly format. Hospital Playlist and Kingdom are significant examples of K-Drama commissions getting the green light due to the hours watched on their streaming service. And, of course, Netflix would be crazy if they didn’t renew Squid Game.
So far, The Silent Sea has plenty of fans showing interest to suggest that the hours viewed will favor the Netflix lords. At Ready Steady Cut, we gave it a favorable review, which is a good sign. However, the streaming service tends to lean towards viewership over ratings.
If the K-Drama community and the viewership align, we believe that The Silent Sea will be renewed. And with Netflix releasing this series on an interesting date, there’s the confidence that they think it will do well.
