The latest episode of Mayor of Kingstown was a brutal one, focusing primarily on a riot and escape attempt in the men’s prison orchestrated by P-Dog but coming to involve Milo and, quite by chance, Ian and Kyle. While this accounted for the bulk of the events in the penultimate chapter, “The Lie of the Truth” also checked in on Mike and Iris, as well as partially dealing with the fallout from Cherry’s murder of Sam in “The Devil Is Us”. With Mayor of Kingstown season 1, episode 10, the much-anticipated finale, on the near horizon, let’s take account of where we stand:

Mayor of Kingstown season 1, episode 9 recap:

  • P-Dog orchestrated a brutal, clearly well-planned prison escape that resulted in the deaths of many guards. He also made friends with Milo, who was waiting for transfer when the riot broke out, and used his knowledge of the prison’s color-coded key system to help out in the escape.
  • Ian and Kyle, who were present to supervise Milo’s transfer to county, were assaulted during the initial break-out. By the end of the episode, they were trying to escape through the bowels of the prison.
  • Miriam was asked to speak with Cherry in order to determine whether or not Sam committed a crime (his family aren’t entitled to his life insurance payments if he did).
  • Mike spent the entire episode with Iris, cooking her breakfast, talking with her, and oddly watching her bathe as they both did very little and shed a few tears.

Mayor of Kingstown season 1, episode 10 release date

The next episode is scheduled to premiere on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 9, 2022. It’s the final of ten total episodes that have aired weekly.

Where to watch Mayor of Kingstown online

Membership is $4.99 or $9.99 a month (the latter is the premium package), or $49.99/$99.99 on an annual plan.

Predictions for the finale

With chaos having well and truly erupted, it remains to be seen how the finale will tie things up. Odds are it won’t — there’s simply too much plot to get through in the space of one episode. Since the show has been popular for Paramount+, a second season seems a likely bet, but here are some things that might happen in the Mayor of Kingstown finale:

  • I’m pretty convinced that Kyle is going to die. The other possibility is that Ian dies and saves him, which will give him a much more profound sense of guilt in the second season. Maybe his desire for revenge leads him to further neglect his family and team up with Mike, against Miriam’s wishes?
  • Presumably, the prison escape will spill out into the streets as has been hinted at throughout the season, which is how Mike will get involved.
  • Did Miriam believe Cherry when she said that Sam raped her? I think her face suggested that she didn’t, but the real question is what she does about it. Will she lie to protect Cherry?
  • What is Milo’s endgame here? He quietly left alone during the riots. But given there’s still the matter of those missing bearer bonds, which apparently is what he sent Mike to discover rather than the school bus full of corpses, there’s a chance he might go straight to Mike for help with recovering that fortune.
