This article discusses whether there will be season 3 of the Netflix series Cheer and its renewed or cancelled status.

Cheer set the world alight with competitive cheerleading and the pains of being a young athlete. It brought the same vibe of Last Chance U, with the directorial drive bringing the plaudits. Cheer season 2 had a lot riding on it. With controversy surrounding the Navarro cheerleading team, it was not a simple instalment for the production team had to navigate a harrowing, traumatic subject. Like the sibling series, Cheers has an addictive formula and has taken itself to the streaming service in its stride.

Will there be a season 3 of Netflix’s Cheer – renewed or cancelled status

Status: TBC

At this moment in time, there is no confirmation on whether there will be a season 3 of Cheer. However, we can speculate whether we believe there will be a third instalment.

First of all, Cheer belongs in the same directorial universe as Last Chance U, which has been extremely popular. The universe is ever-expanding, with basketball now taking the stage. Cheer focuses on competitive cheerleading, but even in season 2, they managed to show a broad scope of trials and tribulations that comes from competing for Nationals. There’s no downplaying the importance. Shouldering big projects, Cheer has every right to expand like the others.

Secondly, the first season of Cheer did marvellously well with viewing figures. It became so popular that the Navarra coach Monica Aldama and her athletes became famous overnight, which came with a lot of pressure. Finally, Cheer has done well with critics.

However, with the controversy surrounding the events after season 1, it could well be that Cheer season 2 is its last. Alternatively, the documentary crew could decide to focus on another cheerleading team. Either way, we think there’s a high chance that Cheer could be renewed. It’s super popular, after all.
