Melody is a central character in the Netflix series Archive 81. She died in the East Village Apartments at The Visser building in New York City. Not much is known about her. So, this begs the question:
Who is Melody Pendras in Archive 81 season 1?
Melody Pendras is a doctoral candidate in sociocultural anthropology at NYU. She is young, beautiful, slender, with the largest doe eyes and a passion for finding the truth. Melody is also seeing a therapist for her crippling anxiety disorder. She is performing an oral history of the East Village Visser apartment building. Melody wants to study the cultural shifts at a facility. However, she has an ulterior motive.
She is looking for a trace of her birth mother.
What does Melody Pendras do in Archive 81 season 1?
The Netflix series Archive 81 opens with a recording off a VHS tape of Melody running through a stairwell. “Jess, can you hear me?” “They took her!” she starts to scream. The last scene in the video has her appearing breathless and scared. She says to the camera, “Please. Please find me. Please help.” This is the first video found that she shot at the apartment complex. Until then, the general public never knew it existed. They came into the possession of Virgil, the CEO of LMG, who hires Dan to restore them.
During the show’s run, she attempts to find her birth mother to see if she lives in the building or has information about her. While doing this, she finds herself recording a cult in the middle of a prayer. A medium ends up mailing herself when Melody asks her to speak to her birth mother from beyond the grave. She also uncovers a plot by two residents, Cassandra and Samuel, to use Jess’s child as a human sacrifice to bring this world and the “Otherworld” together.
She is taken to the mansion basement for the cult ritual when she saves Jess. It turns out, using Jess was a trap to bring back Melody. Why? Because she comes from a long line of Baldung witches — her mother was one. They need her blood for the ritual. By the time the Kaelego from the other world, she is grabbed by Iris Vos and placed in the “waiting room” between both dimensions.
She also develops a connection with Dan as he restores the tapes. As they both dream/hallucinate, they talk to each other. Except, it was the entire time. Dan saves her after Melody’s mother reveals herself, and she keeps the portal open to the Kaelego waiting room.
The only issue? Dan didn’t make it. Melody is now in 2021 with her mother.
