The midseason premiere of The Walking Dead‘s Season 11 was one of its best in years, a suspenseful hour of television that closed off a few subplots, reconciled the two overarching narrative strands, and set big events in motion for the back half of the final seasonThe Walking Dead season 11, episode 10, titled “New Haunts”, will follow on directly, so here’s where things stand at the moment:

  • The remaining Reapers were defeated after a combined effort by Daryl, Maggie, Negan, and Gabriel. However, Maggie couldn’t stand to let them leave unharmed, so shot the survivors in the back as they walked away, including Leah. Daryl later tracked Leah down, but he let her live.
  • Judith and Grace were saved from the flooded basement by Aaron, but Alexandria was still in tatters after the storm.
  • Negan left the group, believing after what he had seen that Maggie, despite their bonding, would eventually try to kill him.
  • Eventually, both groups reunited in Alexandria, at which point the Commonwealth showed up with a proposition.
  • A six-months-later time skip implied some big drama between the lead characters.

Predictions and preview for “New Haunts”:

Since “No Other Way” ended with a pretty major cliffhanger, we can make some pretty reasonable deductions about where things are heading. So, let’s do that:

  • Despite the whole “six months later” thing, it seems like we’re not going to jump into the future and stay there. Instead, I imagine we’ll see the group be introduced to the Commonwealth, and begin to see how we’re going to make our way to the events depicted in that cliff-hanger.
  • So, what can we parse? The group was given two options by the Commonwealth — either receive help building and running their own communities or, presumably, join the Commonwealth itself. Judging by the flash-forward, it seems like Maggie was in her own community, and Daryl, of all people, had signed up.
  • Obviously, at some point the Commonwealth are going to be exposed as villains, so is Daryl doing the whole double agent thing again? Or has he bought into their ideology and Maggie sees through it? Hard to say, at this point.

When Daryl was talking to Judith, he mentioned Alexandria being fixed up. Aaron has probably stayed back to help. Some time has obviously passed between episodes as well.
