Kare is, without a doubt, one of the deadliest and most horrifying characters in the first season of Vikings: Valhalla. Described as a “mad man”, Kare spends much of the season murdering several individuals. The purpose of his mass killings is to “clean the land”.

However, he first stumbles across Freydis after he finds the body of a warrior she killed. (The warrior did try to kill her first, so what was she supposed to do?). But as Freydis and Yrsa leave a blood trail, it leads Kare straight towards their direction. Once he locates Freydis, will Kare be successful in killing her?

It doesn’t take long for Kare to track down Yrsa, and despite her helpless state, he murders her. To add salt to the wound, he hangs her body to the ceiling for Freydis to find. And outside, he sits in the middle of several decapitated heads, sitting in wait for Freydis to find him. Although he initially plans to kill Freydis there and then, he learns that she has a sword from Uppsala. So, instead, Kare gives a message for Freydis to send to Haakan.

As the nature of the first season comes to a close, it doesn’t take long before Kare and Freydis are against each other, once again. In the battle in episode eight of Vikings: Valhalla, Kare’s archers cause serious injury to Haakan. And as Freydis tries to find safety for Haakan, Kare follows her. At first, it looks like Kare will succeed in his goal of destroying Kattegat and killing Freydis. However, Kare fails his mission when Freydis stabs him before decapitating him. A ruthless killer, he got what he deserved. Although, it remains to be seen whether his actions have resulted in the death of Haakan.
