Over the last couple of episodes, Netflix’s slice-of-life k-drama Thirty-Nine has begun to drag its feet a little, with too-long episodes reiterating too-obvious themes and ideas. This week’s episodes definitely had their moments, but they largely continued to develop the same ideas and run headlong into the same obstacles. Before we look ahead to Thirty-Nine season 1, episodes 7 and 8, here’s a quote from our latest recap:
As we get deeper into the season, it’s obvious that this is the pattern Thirty-Nine is content with sustaining, so it also seems obvious that the show isn’t going to radically improve in terms of quality over the next couple of weeks. It remains a sad and well-constructed endeavor that just can’t quite – for me, anyway – get its hooks in emotionally, both thanks to its lack of subtlety and being too busy by half.
Thirty-Nine season 1, episode 7 & 8 release date:
Thirty-Nine episode 7 is slated for release on Wednesday, March 9, at 3 pm GMT, with Thirty-Nine episode 8 airing the next day.
UPDATE: Thirty-Nine went on a week’s hiatus due to the South Koran presidential election, so episodes 7 and 8 didn’t air as planned. They will instead air on March 16 and March 17, pushing the remaining episodes back a week also. Please see the updated episode listing below.
