In many ways, Raised by Wolves is HBO Max’s killer app. It’s the first original show I remember landing on the streaming service and really moving the needle. Critics found it striking and intriguing, while audiences tuned in week after week in significant enough numbers that a second season became inevitable. We’re approaching the end of that second season now, and things are only getting weirder. The show continues to meld sci-fi weirdness with lofty metaphor and allegory, and I think I speak for everyone when I say it’s virtually impossible to predict. But it might be easier to predict the likelihood of Raised by Wolves Season 3.
Renewed or cancelled status – will there be a Raised by Wolves Season 3?
As of now, HBO haven’t officially renewed Raised by Wolves for a third season. But we wouldn’t take that as bad news.
The second season was confirmed shortly after the debut of the first, but HBO being tight-lipped isn’t exactly mysterious. These kinds of decisions essentially come down to production costs versus viewership figures, so it’ll be useful to see how this season has performed in its totality — including the finale — to get a real sense of its popularity. But it’s certainly very popular, among critics and fans. We’ve seen that reflected in our viewership too. Chances are that enough people will care to see more of Raised by Wolves that a third season will be a no-brainer.
And in terms of the show’s narrative, there’s simply no way that everything is going to be tied up in this season. There are just too many questions and possibilities, and the show’s storytelling has always had a long-form, multiple-season style. With so much behind-the-scenes confidence in really taking the time to build up a world and story over multiple seasons, one assumes that HBO Max have given the creators at least word-of-mouth guarantee that the show will keep being renewed until the story is completely over — or until nobody cares anymore, which doesn’t seem likely given current enthusiasm around it.
If I were a betting man, I’d wager on news of a renewal coming pretty soon, and the season itself dropping sometime next year. We’ll keep this page updated either way.
