After Lord Archibald Featherington gets murdered in the season 1 finale, by two bookmakers that he double-crossed, his family, the Featheringtons, are left without a patriarch. So, a new one must arrive, and in enters the heir Lord Jack Featherington. Aware that he may cause problems for her and her daughter, Portia instantly fears what Lord Jack’s arrival will mean.
Fearful that their family could be left with nothing, Portia schemes to have the wealthy Lord Jack caught in an embrace with her daughter Prudence. It seemingly means that Lord Jack and Prudence will be forced to marry. But then Lord Jack tells Portia the secret he’s been hiding.
What is Lord Jack’s secret in Bridgerton season 2?
It turns out that Lord Jack is not as rich as it would seem. In fact, he is completely broke. And he was planning to marry a member of the Cowper family to ensure wealth for the Featherington family. A scheme that Portia has now ruined. Oops.
So now, Lord Jack and Portia must invent a scheme that improves their financial situations. And fast! Plotting together, Lord and Portia decide to sell fake ruby necklaces to several individuals within Mayfair. Portia takes the scheme further by getting Lord Jack to suggest many others invest in the ruby mines that he has “access” to. The ruby mines are, of course, fake.
Despite the clever plot, Lord Jack senses that it can’t last forever, and he suggests that he and Portia flee to America. However, before plans can be fully made, Colin Bridgerton figures out that Lord Jack is a crook. As a result, Colin privately “exposes” Lord Jack’s secret to Portia. And in a final twist, Lortia turns on Lord Jack, sends him to America with no money whilst keeping most of the money earnt from the schemes for herself and her daughters. How scandalous!
