This article contains predictions for the Paramount+ series Halo season 1, episode 3.
Episode 2 opens 22 years earlier, where the audience is given a glimpse of Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) and his origin in the Spartan program. His loyalty, or some may say brainwashing, runs so deep he tries to detain his friend, Soren, from escaping. The thing is, Master Chief was supposed to go with him. This episode explores Dr. Halsey’s precise control over the super soldiers and the lengths she will go to keep the program active.
  • In a Game of Thrones-like power play, Dr. Halsey (Natascha McElhone), Dr. Jacob Keyes (The Crown’s Danny Sapani), and Captain Hood have taken up the defense of the Spartan program. They anticipated that Admiral Parangosky would vote to end it and take down the world’s most revered Spartan (think of the Master Chief as a real-life Uncle SAM). Then, Dr. Halsey unveils the new Cortana program! Halsey even tied Admiral Parangosky to it during the meeting.
  • Master Chief’s flashbacks get more profound this time around. The images include what looks like his mother, unconscious and being carried across a room. He runs, with his dog, over a mound of rocks, his father sternly calls his name, and his mother appears to hide something wrapped in a dining cloth napkin from the man.
  • Dr. Halsey, by the end of the episode, finally thinks it is time for the world to meet Cortana. The episode’s final scene shows the excellent doctor opening up the pod she has her “growing” in.
  • It has been revealed that only certain people could activate the artifact and the Master Chief is one of them. He is told the artifact is a door to the world’s end.

Let’s explore what may happen next week!

  • Two weeks in a row, it has been revealed that the images of Master Chief saw while touching the artifact. Does this have to b the artifact allowing his subconscious to reach the surface?
  • Even though Halo is a stand-alone series, could we see themes and plot devices from other incarnations utilized with different characters? For instance, can the artifact not only allow you to see your past (which is still up for debate) but can it allow Master Chief to revisit his past? I’m betting on a time travel storyline by the season’s end.
  • Will Soren-066’s (Bokeem Woodbine) colony and family be in danger after Master Chief’s visit? Not only will the UNSC trace his steps, but what about the Covenant?
  • Look for Cortona to be unleashed on us in the next upcoming episode. The Admiral (Shabana Azmi) may make a powerplay to end the program and cost her dearly.
