Pacific Rim: The Black season 2, episode 7 recap – the ending explained
Episode 7 begins with Hayley, Taylor, Mei, and Boy en route to Sydney Base while fending off Kaiju. Taylor is struggling with the concept of visiting Sydney, feeling like it’s a myth. A new normal feels alien to him.
The Kaiju return, and they keep fighting them off, but then, the Sisters summon a Category VI Kaiju. There’s no let-off for the characters, and now they have to think of a plan to reach the Sydney Base in time. As they get close to Sydney Base, the military has to decide if Boy is a threat, but then they see more Kaiju, so they trigger their defense systems. Missiles strike our lead characters and the Kaiju. Boy is hurt, but when we think it cannot get worse, Category VI Kaiju arrives. Taylor reports to the Sydney Base again, referencing his parents. Realizing who they are, the military initiates a ceasefire.
At this point, Hayley and Taylor are struggling badly in their Atlas Destroyer, with Category VI Kaiju difficult to handle. The moment feels desperate as they fall to their knees. Meanwhile, Boy has a choice to make as the Sisters attempt to summon him — he either responds to the Messiah or helps his friends. Boy picks his friends.
With the Atlas Destroyer completely broken, the AI Loa activates the ejection protocol for Taylor, so they survive. It’s emotional for both of them as Loa has been by their side since the beginning. They eject, and the Atlas Destroyer self-destructs, taking the Kaiju down.
Apart from Loa, they all survive, and Sydney Base sends a helicopter to pick them up. Hayley and Taylor meet their father in an emotional reunion. Sydney Base runs tests on Boy and concludes he is a weapon, but Taylor disputes that idea, suggesting that anyone can change. Episode 7 brings a heartfelt but straightforward ending to bring the series to a close.
