Tomorrow delivered another decent pair of episodes this week, focusing primarily on Ryung-gu. It was a bleak double-bill, granted, but it also did a lot of decent character work that’ll no doubt pay off as we get into Tomorrow season 1, episodes 13 and 14. As per my own recaps, here’s where things stand, more or less:
Episode 11: Ryung-gu seethes with rage about his mother’s past and the loss of her, but that rage morphs into a desire for vengeance upon learning the truth, and he kills the governor and his soldiers. The reason Ryung-gu decided to be a Reaper was to keep an eye on his mother, who he is unable to reunite with because of her suicide. In the event of her reincarnation, the pain she suffered in her first life might be so strong as to follow her into her next – a morbid thought, indeed.
Episode 12: Children are always a touchy subject. Like the previous episode that utilized a dog for easy emotional pull, it’s easy to feel like Tomorrow is plucking low-hanging fruit here. But like that episode, this one is also pretty well-done, dealing sensitively with the subject matter while also functioning as essentially the second half of yesterday’s episode dealing with Ryung-gu.
