The recent episodes of Bosch: Legacy saw the season race past its halfway point, with things ramping up dramatically as the show approaches the final furlong of this pilot season.

Here’s a close look at what happened in “Plan B” and “Chain of Authenticity”:

  • Chandler and Bosch worked together to help foil Carl Rogers’ scheme to repay his debt to the Russian, which ultimately led to his debtors taking him out before he could execute his escape plan.
  • The Vance/Santenello case was thrown into chaos following the death of Whitney Vance himself, but it emerged that prior to his death, he made a last-minute holographic will which named Bosch as the sole executor of his estate, making him the guardian of a multi-billion dollar empire.
  • Maddie got her first taste of a really bad day on the job when one of her friends from the police academy was shot during a traffic stop. The incident rocks both her and Bosch given the obvious similarities to how Maddie’s mother Eleanor was killed.

Predictions

Rogers’ exit from the narrative at this point in the series was a big shock — I had thought he would be one of the main threads throughout this entire first season, with the fallout to follow with whatever came next. It looks like those aftershocks will be brought forward now, along with a few other things following the other developments that have occurred in these most recent episodes.

  • Given that the Russians are aware of how closely Bosch and Chandler were sniffing around Rogers, and the potential threat they could pose to what is obviously a much larger operation, I think both of them need to watch their backs as they could very easily become their next targets — Bosch especially, as I would think that CCTV freeze-frame from an earlier episode could come back to bite him in particular
  • The Vance/Santanello case will take a bigger step into the limelight for the remainder of the season — things are starting to heat up on all fronts there, and it feels like the fight to make sure Vance’s legacy is passed to the right person could turn into a nasty treasure hunt as I’m sure the board of his company is not inclined to step back any time soon
  • I doubt Maddie will be deterred from joining the police force off the back of Paulina’s shooting — I think if anything it will make her more like her parents in her own mind, but I do think she will land herself in a dangerous or compromising position before season one wraps
  • I’m not sure what’s next for Chandler; I’m doubtful that Rogers’ death will bring her the peace that she needs, and as I say, there is a good chance her card is marked with the Russians. What I will say though is I think if anyone ever comes for her again, she won’t be the one who gets laid out this time.
