Renewed or cancelled – will there be a season 2 of New Heights?

Landing on Netflix on May 13, 2022, was a well-received and praised Swiss series titled New Heights. Bringing many social complexities and the burdens of a family business, the series fancies its chances on a streaming platform.

The premise of New Heights brings a complex family conundrum: It follows the character Michi Wyss (played by Roeland Wiesnekker), whose life suddenly changes — from a successful financial consultant encroaching on high-end investments to a chilling call from his family.

Michi’s family business is farming. One day, the father of the family takes his life. The weight of responsibility now lands with his wife and his children. The transference of responsibility between the patriarch to the rest of the family makes for fascinating viewing. From propelling the nature of grief to inspiring the action to save the family is a well-devised directional approach. The premise forces Michi to choose — he either sticks to his career or saves the family farm. The premise of New Heights adds layers above family expectations; Michi is successful outside his family. In the city, no one knows his personal origin as the farmer’s son, but in the village where the farm resides, no one knows he is gay.

Will there be a season 2 of Netflix’s New Heights – renewed or cancelled status

While there are whispers that a second season is on the horizon, there’s been no official confirmation by Netflix that New Heights will return. However, with the accolades the series is receiving in Switzerland, we would not be surprised to hear about a renewal very soon. Netflix works differently from other streaming services — it prefers to monitor watch hours and see if it breaches the top 10s before making a decision. Usually, Netflix takes around a month after the release of the current season to confirm if a renewal is taking place.
