Netflix’s controversial CG anime series Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 debuted its second season today, May 23, 2022, presumably bringing the story to a close. But is it really over? With a relatively open finale, and dealing with such a beloved IP, there is bound to be a lot of speculation about the show’s potential future, so we’ve assembled everything we know about it right now for your convenience.
Renewed or canceled status – will there be a Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Season 3?
As of right now, there aren’t any official plans to continue the series beyond the second season. As a matter of fact, it was clarified in an interview with Production I.G. USA president Maki Terashima-Furuta on Anime News Network that the story being told was intended to be spread across two seasons, and it seems like that has been accomplished. While the ending wasn’t exactly conclusive, it certainly felt like a thematic denouement if not necessarily a narrative one.
We should also consider that the show wasn’t especially well-received, mostly thanks to its ill-advised CG animation style rather than a more traditional hand-drawn approach. It also exists within a sub-continuity separate from that of Masamune Shirow’s original manga or Mamoru Oshii’s landmark 1995 anime film. Ghost in the Shell is a beloved property, but as of now it has been bad just as often — if not more so — than it has been good. Even longstanding fans will only tolerate so much, and many of them have made it clear that this version of the property isn’t one they’re entirely enamored with.
If I had to make a prediction, I’d say that Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will not be renewed for Season 3.
What is Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045?
A part of the Stand Alone Complex sub-continuity of Ghost in the Shell, SAC_2045, as per Wikipedia, is set in the year 2045 (11 years after events of Solid State Society) after an economic disaster known as the Simultaneous Global Default which destroyed the value of all forms of paper and electronic currency, the “Big 4” nations of the world are engaged in a state of never-ending “Sustainable War” to keep the economy going. In this world, Motoko, Batou, and other members of Public Security Section 9 have contracted themselves out as mercenaries under the group “GHOST,” using their cybernetic enhancements and battle experience to earn a living while defusing hot-spots across the globe. However, the emergence of “Post Humans” and a conspiracy uncovered by former Chief Aramaki force Section 9 to reunite.

I would love another season sence you guys added a code for the the next time they meet.
I too was immediately turned off by the animation, Re-design if the major , etc. I did no research I just passed over it based solely on the thumbnail movie poster image .
Out of sheer boredom , I turned it on, it was worse than I thought, they are using what appears to be video game tech to produce the show, each frame is not drawn, or even key frames with interpolation, you can tell it works like the games that use machine learning to draw entire scenes and movements of the charecters, anyone with game design knowledge in the slightest will see it. It’s not as bad as the days of yore in fair cyridil (oblivion reference from ps3 ) … oh wait , actually it is. Case in point on season one when they are in the USA and stop in a town there is a sandwich or burrito vendor, she moves like a ps3 oblivion now, maybe worse , repeating the exact same gesture of crossing her arms and shifting around.
However you eventually adjust to this, if your a long time fan the sound of their voices was enough to suffer through. Had they changed voice actors it would a dismal failure.
The story on this show is where it shines, a true diamond in the rough. The elements from 1984 are perfectly wound and intertwined with a prescient view of where society and technology is headed. Isn’t that what made Ghost in the shell so damn great all those years ago?
“Sustainable war” and a modified version of oligarchs collectivism with except the oligarchs are reprinted by a merging of AI and humanity.
I won’t go into story details , but I could conduct a grad course centered around this series as our crystal ball.
