Summary

“Suspended Game” suggests that the future isn’t going to be too bright for Na-eun and Jun-hyeong — and perhaps that’s for the best.

This recap of Welcome to Wedding Hell season 1, episode 10, “Suspended Game”, contains spoilers.

With only two episodes remaining, it really doesn’t feel like Welcome to Wedding Hell is in a meaningfully different place than it was in when it began. Na-eun and Jun-hyeong are still bickering. Now their mothers are, too. And you have to wonder how all of this is going to be resolved in time for the finale. If it isn’t, which one suspects might be the point of the whole endeavour, will that have been worth the investment?

Welcome to Wedding Hell season 1, episode 10 recap

It’s not a new idea to suggest that dealing with one’s in-laws isn’t easy. It’s not that interesting, either. The finger of blame begins to point at everyone. Jun-hyeong’s mother is annoyed that he’s taking Na-eun’s side; Na-eun’s father wonders why his wife is creating conflict. Why did Na-eun and Jun-hyeong even get their parents involved in the first place? Aren’t they capable of organizing their own wedding?

I think we’ve already had the answer to that question. These two couldn’t organize a night out in a brewery. And yet even as various catastrophes continue to unfold and all their plans are in complete disarray, they have to simply keep up appearances, including going ahead with their wedding photoshoot, cancellation of which would be tantamount to cancelling the wedding itself.

But things remain awkward and strained, and the obligatory reconciliations by episode’s end no longer seem so easily achievable. So, there’s a lot of sulking, even despite Min-woo and Hui-seon’s tag-team involvement. The photoshoot goes ahead, but it’ll hardly create any cherished memories. Na-eun isn’t interested in Jun-hyeong’s attempts to break the ice. Eventually, even, she decides that her idyllic vision of them growing old together really isn’t matching up with what she’s seeing in the immediate. Is the wedding going to be called off?

Honestly, it probably should be. Thankfully, this is the show’s last week, which is just as well since it’s really running out of steam.
