The Terminal List is an action-thriller series based on the best-selling book series by Jack Carr, whose main character is Jack Reece. Chris Pratt stars as Reece, who is having a good summer coming off his blockbuster smash (but critical misfire) Jurassic World Dominion. He is a family man who has a beautiful wife, Lauren, and a nine-year-old daughter, Lucy. James Reece is a Lt. Commander and leads a SEAL team. He is well respected—a legend in the armed forces community.

So, that begs the question:

Who is James Reece in The Terminal List season 1?

What does Lt. Commander James Reece do?

A Lt. Commander in the United States Navy who leads his team on a mission to eliminate a chemical weapons specialist named Kahani. He and one other unit member, Boozer, survive the mission. It was a setup and ambush, but Reece doesn’t know why. He suffered a concussion and returned home paranoid and ruminating over the task. His memory is off after the attack, as the audio tape shows Donny Mitchell panicking and setting off a trip wire. However, Reece remembers a supporting trooper being the one, not Mitchell. Also, Boozer commits suicide days later, but with the gun he usually would never use. After the funerals, he begins to accept it may be PTSD that has him suffering from paranoia and memory lapses.

There are two scenarios where Reece and others question if what is happening with him is real or not. He goes to get a CT scan and wakes up with two sicarios attempting to kill him. Reece kills one, injures the other, and races home to check on his family. Unfortunately, he finds that they have both been shot to death. This is not a hallucination. He also met a reporter before his family’s death. Later he gives her permission to look over the CAT scans, showing that he has a brain tumor. An assassin follows them and then tries to show Reece dead. His reply to Katie? “Do you still think I’m paranoid?”

He then begins to investigate, along with help from Katie, a CIA agent Ben, a pilot Liz, and his father’s old army buddy, Marco. As they uncover clues, Reece begins to create a list of names, aka The Terminal List, on the back of a drawing by his daughter Lucy. If you end up on the list, it means you had a part in the coverup, the murder of his family, were involved in the experiment, or profited off it.

The names on the list include law enforcement (NCIS Detective Josh Holder), members of the intelligence community (CIA Agent Ben Edwards), military officers (Admiral Pillar, Commander Cox, and Captain Howard), foreign assassins (El Navajas), and yuppy businessmen (Steve Horn, Sean Agnon, and Marcus Boykin). He uncovers a plot that his unit was exposed to a blind experiment, and when that led to unintended consequences, an attempted coverup led to fifteen deaths.

Commander James Reece takes out everyone methodically, and anyone supporting them is considered an enemy of the battlefield. We last see James Reece sailing off into the sunset.
