In the penultimate chapter, Jimmy faces off against a crooked guard and a creepy murderer. Time is fast running out for the cocky drug dealer and he needs a confession before his many enemies come a-calling. Here’s what happened in episode five of Black Bird:
- Jimmy’s shrink is on holiday so he receives a replacement doctor. She talks to him about mental health and asks him to be more considerate of other inmates.
- Brian and Lauren drive around possible locations looking for the buried bodies, reassessing paperwork from the time Larry directed the police.
- Larry and Jimmy catch up, talking about young girls again. Jimmy is desperate for a confession and really pushes the topic against his own wishes.
- Larry’s shrink worries about his mental state. He says he’s never felt better though. She calls him cocky and confident. Larry explains how his appeal is going well and that he has a new friend in Jimmy.
- Carter starts to tell the other prisoners Jimmy’s secret. So Jimmy rushes off to find Larry. They talk in the wood shop about girls and sex. Larry begins to confess, describing the abduction, rape and murder of Jessica Roach.
- In flashbacks we see all Jessica’s happiest memories, ending with the arrival of her precious mountain bike.
- Brian and Lauren track down a female, who was harassed by Larry. He gifted her many things including a bike. She still has this bike, which appears to be Jessica’s. This evidence is apparently not strong enough to keep Larry behind bars though. They need more.
- Jimmy retrieves a full confession, but doesn’t press him for the specific locations.
- In his cell, Jimmy cries with a clenched fist hiding his sobs.

Predictions
- The finale is a week away and there is a lot of ground still to cover. Jimmy needs the burial locations of Larry’s victims before he is attacked by fellow inmates.
- The Guard has revealed Jimmy’s secrets and he is sure to be violently assaulted at any moment now.
- Larry is highly suspicious, but happy to divulge his secrets. Asking the question outright may spook him, but it might be Jimmy’s only hope.
- Brian and Lauren will continue their investigation, but all hopes hinge on Jimmy now.
- Will he get the confession before being attacked and possibly killed? Will Jimmy be released? And more importantly, will Larry be freed or remain in prison for the rest of his life?
