Renewed or Cancelled - Will there be a Season 4 of The Orville?

This article discusses the potential of The Orville Season 4 and its renewed or canceled status. It may contain minor spoilers.

Seth MacFarlane’s loving homage to classic Star Trek has enjoyed a pretty tumultuous life cycle so far, having been sidelined by Covid, moved to Hulu, picked up a subtitle, and had to endure a pretty long wait between seasons that might have turned some of the fanbase away. But the loyal viewers are more adamant than ever that The Orville: New Horizons has plenty to offer, and the buzz for a fourth season has been consistent even since the debut of the third. Things are a little up in the air right now, here’s everything we know all the same.

Renewed or Cancelled – Will there be a Season 4 of The Orville?

Status: TBC

At the time of writing things are, as mentioned above, a little up in the air.

For a start, the cast’s contracts have expired and many have moved on to alternative projects. And there hasn’t been any official confirmation from Hulu so far that there are any further adventures planned in the Orville’s immediate future.

However, there hasn’t even an official cancellation either. As always, these decisions are driven by viewership and moolah, and The Orville has one of the more vocal and passionate fanbases in all of television. Nobody has been shy about the desire for another season all throughout this one, which seems to have been of unusually high quality, and if the audience is there, it’s a pretty safe bet that Disney/Hulu will try and sell something to it.

So, without official word, all we have to go on is an estimate. However, I strongly suspect we’ll see confirmation of The Orville Season 4 sooner rather than later. But the question is will it have a new subtitle, or will it be New Horizons Season 2? That’s when things will get a little confusing.

What is The Orville?

Per the show’s own Wiki:

The Orville is an American television series produced by 20th Television and currently airing on the streaming service Hulu, having previously aired its first two seasons on FOX. It follows the adventures of Captain Ed Mercer and the crew of the USS Orville as they explore space, battle enemies, and deal with their personal lives.

I waited until 2022 to watch The Orville, mostly because a little Seth Macfarlane goes a long way with me. His style of humor. But I gave it a shot because of the recent Star Trek Discovery and Picard disappointments. I absolutely love The Orville more than I could have imagined. I’ve laughed and cried several times. That Klyden was so hateable, then wow. Played by the amazing Chad L Coleman.

Based on the last episode, “Domino”, it just feels like they are going to wrap it all up in the season or series finale, “Future Unknown”. I will miss it, but will understand and will have great memories. Anyway, I’d rather it stop now for fear of it going sideways and being a disappointment like other series we’ve loved.

I am so thankful that we have to fall back on. Star Trek (Old Trek) inspires me to better humanity, the current cumulatively is NOT Star Trek but Star Trash. The Orville is offering oxygen for me to go forth and fight for a better future for humanity Long live The Orville and may it stay its course carrying the torch from old area to inspire us to do better and be better for the lives that we have be given. Thanks Seth

I can only hope that THE ORVILLE continues with a Season 4 as Seth has proved a worthy competitor to the entire Star Trek off-shots in quality and content. Special effects, costume and set design and acting are equal to or surpass those of the long-running Star Trek shows. Disney-Hulu: PLEASE don’t cancel THE ORVILLE. It’s one of your best series this season!

I really liked the first seasons but this new season is way too woke. I want sci-fi not a 21st century pride parade. Not a phobe but this and
Discovery has jumped the shark. Oh and the whole Socialist agenda is really obvious in the subtext of a episodes. Boo! CANCEL

The Orville is pure television ecstasy. I have been thrilled, optimistic, overjoyed, filled with laughter, and brought to tears, sometimes all of these emotions from 1 single episode!!!! This show is pure genius. It has renewed my faith that good writing and story telling is not dead. #RenewTheOrville

Orville has risen above all the other Sci Fi products offered on cable. Not that the others are trash but due to the great stories this year. Eanh episode touches you in your heart. Pure genius. Save Orville…..

Watched it from the beginning and love The Orville. While I do agree with Ryan that it has become too “woke” I still love it and am hoping for many more seasons.

I found the first couple of seasons a little rocky as the show juggled typical MacFarlane humor while also attempting to address bigger, more serious issues and the juxtapose felt a little jarring at times. This last season seems a little more focused and for the better. Maybe not a classic for the ages but very watchable.

Yep a great series getting even better this third season. I also liked all the new Star Trek series. Just finished Strange New Worlds, which was excellent. Old Trek, new Trek it’s all great! Those complaining it’s too woke, you need to watch Star Trek the original series, it was very woke for the late 60’s, that’s what Star Trek is good at, relating to the current issues in our culture. So glad there is more sci-fi these days!!

Great series, from Episode 1 season 1 to now. I for one adore the series, it felt more engaging than some of the current SciFi offerings and it kept my attention with for the whole run so far easily. I sincerely believe they should open another pickle jar and give us more Orville!

I’d be really disappointed if The Orville would end with season 3.

Woke or not, The Orville is an enlightment, there’s simply nothing bad about it.
As Bortus would say : ” You will be silent !! ” then followed by Isaac ” You may continue with season 4,5,6…. ”
Heck, for all i care, bring back Alara for a couple of episodes or even Ensign Burke (it’s not certain she’s dead)
Honestly, i hated it to see them go.
Spread peace, joy and laughter throughout the galaxy, save another newly discovered species, anything will do just fine.
The quantum core isn’t dead yet, improvise, surprize and amaze us by continuing the gem known as The Orville !

    Latchkum !!!

Anyone who says this series is too “woke” is an idiot. This is television that has humanity and excitement.
