This article is a preview for Industry season 2, episode 2, “The Giant Squid”, and may contain spoilers for previous episodes.

Industry is, essentially, HBO’s halfway point between Succession and Euphoria — a workplace drama about deplorable people in a cutthroat business who also happen to be drug-addled sex-mad sociopaths. It was a weird release in 2020, dumped in bulk onto both HBO Max in America and BBC iPlayer in the UK, but it obviously did well enough to justify a second season that, it seems, will follow a more traditional weekly release cadence.

Industry season 2, episode 1 recap

The second season debuted with “Daddy” and reintroduced us to a post-pandemic trading floor. Here’s what happened, in summary:

  • Harper returned to the Pierpoint offices after spending a year working out of a hotel, which incidentally is where she meets a new character in hedge-fund pandemic prognosticator Jesse Bloom.
  • Yasmin lost in her biggest client in Maxim but might have found another opportunity in Pierpoint managing director Celeste.
  • Robert is sober and suffering the consequences in both his professional and personal lives.
  • Eric is even more stressed than usual thanks to Covid having done a number on world economies and the New York division having sent over an emissary in the form of a smug young professional whom Eric can’t stand.

Industry season 2, episode 2 release date

“The Giant Squid” will release on Monday, August 8, at 9pm ET on HBO and HBO Max. It’ll be the second of eight episodes, airing every Monday between now and September 19.

Where to watch Industry online

As stated above, Industry is exclusive to HBO and HBO Max, where it can be viewed with a subscription.

Predictions for “The Giant Squid”:

The official synopsis runs thusly, per IMDb:

Harper’s decision to pursue Bloom over Felim exposes larger issues between her and Eric and the account. Meanwhile, Yasmin pitches herself for an exciting new opportunity just as her estranged father Charles suddenly reemerges, and Robert takes his pursuit of Nicole to another level.

We can make some logical assumptions from this, but some here are some others things that might happen:

  • Harper obviously sees Bloom as a mark, but I got a little sexual chemistry from them. I wonder if a kind of authentic relationship might help Harper to better get in touch with some recognizable morality.
  • Robert will inevitably turn to the drugs again, but the question is whether it’s Nicole or Yasmin who’ll lead him down the dark path.
  • When Robert was putting Harper to bed, she made some nasty remarks about his sexual issues, so it seems like they have been sleeping together during the year.
