This article discusses the potential of Tom Swift Season 2 and its renewed or cancelled status.
The obvious upside of Tom Swift, aside from its connection to the CW’s relatively popular Nancy Drew reboot, is that it was about a black, gay billionaire played with contagious enthusiasm by Tian Richards. Despite being loosely based on the classic book series, it felt like an update that really took matters of representation seriously. But given everything going on with the CW, the lackluster viewing figures and critical reception, are fans of the show likely to see any more of it?
Renewed or Cancelled status – Will there be a Tom Swift Season?
Predictably, the CW has canned Tom Swift after just one season.
Ever since it debuted Tom Swift has occupied the bottom rung of the ratings ladder, keeping company with shows that have already been canceled by the network, including Dynasty and In the Dark. Its fate was pretty much sealed, and there just isn’t enough of a fanbase to justify a renewal, even despite some of the show’s upsides mentioned above.
There’s little likelihood of the show being picked up elsewhere, and it’s unlikely that it’ll return down the line given this was the first-season spin-off of another show that itself failed to set the world alight. Despite some historical cache given the source material, there just isn’t enough here, and with big changes occurring at the CW thanks to its acquisition, Tom Swift is one of several casualties that might perhaps be considered for the greater good.
Tom Swift concluded on August 2, 2022. Do you have any thoughts on the show being cancelled? Let us know in the comments below.
