Star Trek: Lower Decks is an animated show that focuses on the exploits of the crew that works behind the scenes on the U.S.S. Cerritos. The “lower deckers” are made up of the low-ranking staff and menial workers of the ship. This is the third season of the show and here’s what we know so far about it.

Paramount series Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3 release date and how many episodes

Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3 has a release date of August 25th, 2022. There will be a total of 10 episodes.

Paramount series Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3 premise

Set in the 24th century, Star Trek: Lower Decks follows the staff you don’t normally see on board a lowly ship called the U.S.S Cerritos. The premise flips the usual Star Trek dynamics, with the normal “stars” of such shows, the Captain, etc, becoming supporting characters, and the “lower deckers” becoming the main players in the stories.

Our opinion on the premise

It’s hard not to be taken in by the comedy premise of this series. The format focussing on the funny side of running an intergalactic Federation ship is endearing and clever, and the basic premise allows for the subversion of the usual sci-fi tropes associated with the franchise.

Is there a trailer?

Yes, there is, and you can watch it here:

Looks like we are in for more animated hijinks from the crew, with plenty of in-jokes surrounding the Star Trek universe, and a special treat for fans can be found at the end of the trailer.

What else do we know?

The series will pick up from the cliff-hanger ending of season two. It seems that there will be guest voice actors from other properties such as Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. There will be 10 episodes in season three. Episode 1 looks to be titled “Grounded,” and Episode 2 is currently known as “The Least Dangerous Game.”
