This article discusses the Netflix Korean film Seoul Vibe, including the premise, release date, cast, soundtrack, and trailer.

Looking to continue their hot streak when it comes to Korean content, Netflix is heading into fresher territory with Seoul Vibe. After the mixed reaction to the action thriller Carter which, although fairly popular, did not really cultivate a strong fanbase, the streaming service may be hoping that director Moon Hyun-sung’s first full-length project in five years will bring with it a more solidified level of praise.

With that in mind, here is everything we know about the newest Netflix film, Seoul Vibe.

Netflix film Seoul Vibe release date

Seoul Vibe will be released on Netflix on August 26, 2022.

Netflix film Seoul Vibe premise

Courtesy of Netflix, this film focuses on the drivers of the Sanggye-dong Supreme Team who become involved in a slush fund investigation after receiving the proverbial offer that cannot be refused. Set near the beginning of the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics, this is a retro-themed action flick that promises to be high octane.

Our opinion of the premise

Combining elements of a crime thriller with what is essentially drag racing, Seoul Vibe certainly scores points for originality. Flanked by its 1988 backdrop, in addition to its well-regarded cast, it seems like the reasonably ambitious plot can be pulled off. Whether the right balance can be struck between the flashy action set-pieces and the more corporate level of affairs remains to be seen, though.

The production team

  • Oh Jung-se
  • Song Min-ho

Is there a soundtrack?

Yes! Although full details are not yet known, IMDb lists Nene Kang and DJ Soulscape as those in charge of the film’s music. Plus, those who viewed the trailer will have been treated to the familiar tones of Song Min-ho, as well as Dynamic Duo’s Gaeko, meaning there’s at least one original song coming.

Is there a trailer?

Yes, here it is:

It’s fair to say that Seoul Vibe looks worth a watch from the trailer alone. The retro scenery is fun, the bright colours are firmly on show, and there’s a general feeling of potential excitement present. Youthful, rebellious road racers working as spies isn’t a concept that appears often in cinema, so even if just based on uniqueness alone, this 138-minute offering could prove to be one of the year’s more intriguing releases.

Additional Thoughts

Keep an eye out for acting newcomer Song Min-ho here. Most famous as a member of K-Pop group WINNER, the charismatic artist will look to transition into a big-screen role seamlessly. Given how much he’s already proved himself in various paths, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if Song surpasses expectations.
