This article discusses 5 reasons to watch the series Delhi Crime season 2 on Netflix.
The release of the second season of the critically acclaimed Indian crime series Delhi Crime is upon us, with new episodes hitting Netflix on August 26. Here are five reasons why you should look forward to it:
5 Reasons To Watch Delhi Crime season 2 on Netflix
Reason 1: The genre
Who doesn’t love a good crime thriller? There is a reason why the police procedural genre was so popular in the 2000s and early 2010s — everybody enjoys a good mystery and seeing the good guys take down the bad guys. Details on the plot of Season 2 are sparse at this point, though we do know that it will revolve around a multiple murder case involving senior citizens. Judging from the trailer (see below), it seems like our heroes will have an even more complicated case this time, but we are rooting for them, and are confident they will pull through it.
Reason 2: It looks really good
The trailer, released in early August, gave us a basic breakdown of the story of the new season, which looks to be doubling down on the tension. DCP Vartika Chaturvedi continues to search for peace and prosperity, while the world keeps crumbling around her. Check it out:
Reason 3: The cast
Led by Shefali Shah, who won Best Lead Actress at the Asian Academy Creative Awards back in 2019 for her portrayal of DCP Vartika Chaturvedi, the ensemble of the first season included strong performances by Rajesh Tailang, Rasika Dugal, and Sidharth Bhardwaj. They are all returning for the second season, so we should look forward to more solid acting in the new episodes.
Reason 4: Season 1 was a killer
With a 94% Rotten Tomatoes critic and audience score, season 1 was very well received among those who watched it. Our review called it “a brutal true story with authenticity, compassion, and attention”, saying that it “is not at all exploitative or sensationalist”, but rather “a frank detailing of a case conducted by a police force woefully underequipped for it”. It also picked up multiple statues, including Best Drama Series at the International Emmy Awards, which recognizes television programs initially produced and aired outside the U.S.
Reason 5: It’s good counterprogramming
This doesn’t refer to its genre or premise, which certainly abound these days, but rather everything else that surrounds the series. As the title suggests, it takes place in India and serves as enlightenment to a lot of issues that are unknown to the rest of the world. The Hollywood market is not exactly overpopulated with Indian filmmaking, though a clear exception comes to mind. Delhi Crime season 2 might benefit from the success of the most recent RRR movie, also on Netflix. The movie was released in March, though people are starting to pick up on it now. With plenty of fantasy series going around these days, people looking for more grounded series might find some watercooler in this show.
