This article discusses the Netflix film The Catholic School, including the premise, release date, trailer, and cast.
The Catholic School (original title La Scuola Cattolica), had its initial release at the Venice Film Festival last year, and it’s coming to Netflix. Based on the novel of the same name by Italian author Edoardo Albinati, the film tells the gripping story of a crime that shocked Rome back in the 70s. The Circeo massacre happened in 1976 when three privileged young men tortured and raped two women. Only one of them survived the ordeal.
After its festival premiere, The Catholic School has been praised by critics for its stunning visuals and unsettling pace. The fact that it’s based on real events promises an uncomfortable viewing experience.
Netflix film The Catholic School release date
The Catholic School will be available to stream on Netflix on Wednesday, 14th September 2022.
The Catholic School premise
The Netflix synopsis reads: “In 1975, three students at an all-male Catholic high school in Rome commit a crime that shocks their classmates and community. Based on real events.”
Our opinion of the premise
Turning a horrific true crime story into a work of fiction is certainly not a ground-breaking idea. However, the premise for The Catholic School is intriguing, especially for those of us who like movies that delve deep into the psyche of killers. Critics had good things to say about this suspenseful thriller following its festival premiere. Based on the trailer and everything we’ve read so far, we’re looking forward to streaming it as soon as it lands on Netflix.
Is there a trailer?
Yes, there is. However, this version is in Italian, the film’s original language. The English language version of the trailer is available on Netflix’s official page for the movie.
The trailer does a good job of building up suspense. We already know that the movie is based on a real crime. We don’t, however, know anything about the world these young men lived in. There are images in the trailer showing snippets from the privileged life inside an elite private school for boys, with a background ominous feel of something sinister lurking beneath the surface.
