This article discusses the Netflix film I Used to Be Famous (2022), including the premise, release date, cast, and trailer.

Back in 2015, writer and director Eddie Sternberg won several awards in the UK festival circuit for the short film I Used to Be Famous. Fast forward to today and the full feature version of the film is about to premiere on Netflix after a short limited cinema release. The film tells a heartwarming story of the unlikely friendship between a former pop star and a young drumming protegee with autism.

I Used to be Famous premise

According to the Netflix synopsis, I Used to Be Famous is about: “A former boy band star unexpectedly gets a second shot at success when he forms a bond with a gifted young drummer.”

Our opinion of the premise

Described by Sternberg as “heartfelt rather than cheesy,” the film seems determined to pull at the viewer’s heartstrings. We’re preparing for a tear-jerker comedy drama. The film may give insight into what happens to people who found fame at a young age before being spat out by the cutthroat entertainment industry. The main character never really moved on from his teenage years and spends his adulthood performing unsuccessfully on the streets of Peckham. Films about unlikely friendships have been done before, but the washed-up has-been angle puts an interesting spin on the genre.
