This article discusses 5 reasons to watch the Netflix series Santo and does not contain any spoilers.

16th September will see the arrival of a brand new Netflix original series from Spain. Santo is a crime thriller set on a global scale, with a premise reaching either side of the Atlantic Ocean. And, with a distinct needle-in-a-haystack vibe, the odds promise to be interesting at the very least.

Have we got your attention? Here are 5 reasons to watch Santo:

5 Reasons to Watch Santo on Netflix

Reason 1. Intriguing plot

Santo promises a fairly elaborate storyline. Netflix says –

“Two cops on opposite sides of the Atlantic engage in a desperate hunt for a vicious international drug dealer whose face has never been revealed.”

Already, it sounds large-scale and potentially very twisty. Whilst there is scope for that to backfire, if Santo gets it right it could be phenomenal.

Reason 2. Reaching for the stars

As well as being a story set on a very large scale, Santo also sounds a bit like it could be setting one of its central characters to be something of a legend. From my understanding, the show shares its name with its titular character who, on the basis that their identity will remain a mystery to everyone, will become a bit of a boogeyman for viewers. Again, there’s a lot of chance for it to go wrong, but if Santo can make that jump and stick the landing, it could be an absolute winner.

Reason 3. Totally original

Santo has been made completely from scratch and is not rooted in any pre-existing source material. This means the show will be a complete original, and will therefore have the element of complete surprise. It will be nice for viewers to go into something with absolutely zero notion of what’s to come as they will have no prior source material upon which to base any preconceived notions of what the show should be like, which will save on all of that delightful discourse for a while.

Reason 4. A tale spanning the globe

Santo’s plot is to be set between both Spain and Brazil, which suggests an international saga is in the post. It’s another marker of how ambitious this show is, and allows us to get excited all over again.

Reason 5. Vicente Amorim directing

He may not be a household name to all, but Vicente Amorim directing this series is quite significant when you look over his filmography and some of the names he’s worked with. The man has got some very good credits, and is clearly a well-travelled and very experienced director with whom, one can assume, they are in safe hands!

You will be able to watch this series with a subscription to Netflix.
