Like For Like – 10 series like Wedding Season you must watch

Dead To Me (2019)

This series is about a powerful friendship that blossoms between a tightly wound widow and a free spirit with a shocking secret. Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini have wonderful chemistry with each other to make this show entertaining to watch. The two of them deal with grief in different ways and they help each other put back the pieces. Similar to Wedding Season there is a balance between crime and comedy that works for the story and the characters so well.

Firefly Lane (2021)

Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) support each other through good times and bad with an unbreakable bond that carries them from their teens to their forties. This series uses flashbacks to show how different both of their lives have been over the years. Tully’s background is a bit darker than Kate’s and there’s a mystery to how Tully has become the way she is. She knows many people and is a bit tougher than Kate. It’s all about testing relationships and how to stand the test of time. Similar to Wedding Season the mystery of certain character comes into play and those connections are tested when people make accusations.

High Fidelity (2020)

Robyn (Zoë Kravitz), who is a  fan of music, pop culture, and Top Five lists, runs a local record store in her hometown. It is an adaptation of Nick Hornby’s same-titled novel. Robyn goes through different relationships and makes a space for herself even through the hardships she faces. It’s all about creating connections with people and also being grounded in humanity. Wedding Season challenges those who have made mistakes and need to rely on human connection.

Tales of the City (2019)

A middle-aged Mary Ann (Laura Linney) returns to San Francisco and reunites with the eccentric friends she left behind. The series focuses primarily on the people who live in a boardinghouse turned apartment complex owned by Anna Madrigal at 28 Barbary Lane, all of whom quickly become part of what Maupin coined a “logical family”. It shows that there is power in numbers and that everyone can have a different living situation. Just like Wedding Season, no one knows the backstory of certain people and that’s what leads them through this mystery on the wedding day.

Modern Love (2019)

This series is based on the New York Times column that explores relationships, love, and human connection. It has a massive ensemble cast including Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Andy Garcia, and Dev Patel. They all go through life trying to understand the meaning of love and how to create long-lasting relationships. Wedding Season puts all these relationships to the test when they try to figure out the cause of death of all these people at her wedding. It makes them question the people they had in their lives in the first place.

Four Weddings and a Funeral (2019)

This series is based on the movie from 1994 and it is one of the best comedies to date. The series does play out a bit differently because there is more you can do in multiple episodes to expand the story. Throughout five social occasions, a committed bachelor must consider the notion that he may have discovered love. Love can be difficult to find or even hold onto so when Katie is presented with this situation on her wedding day in Wedding Season it’s hard for her to understand how to even move forward with the family she married into.

Uncoupled (2022)

In this series, Michael’s (Neil Patrick Harris) life seemed to be perfect until his long-time partner blindsided him after 17 years of being in a long-term relationship. He has to confront the nightmares of losing his soulmate and suddenly finding himself as a single gay man in his mid-40s. Relationships can be difficult especially when they blindside you and it’s hard to move on. You never fully know the person you’re living with and that’s why for Katie it’s hard to process who she has surrounded herself with in Wedding Season.

Love Life (2020)

In Love Life, Anna Kendrick stars in a fresh take on a romantic comedy anthology series about the journey from first love to lasting. The series explores every little thing that goes into building a relationship. Through the good moments, the intimate ones, and the loving ones, there is so much that goes into building something long-lasting. There’s so much strength shown in the series that is similar to what Katie shows in Wedding Season

The Time Traveler’s Wife (2022)

This series can be considered a bit farfetched to some people because of the time travel but the romance adds to the story. It is based on the best-selling novel by Audrey Niffenegger. This couple goes through a lifetime together and finds themselves learning more and more about each other. As Wedding Season goes on Katie learns more about the men in her life and how they work in tough situations. As the series goes on she finds out things that she may have never found out about them before.

On the Verge (2021)

In this series, four women a chef, a single mom, an heiress, and a job seeker dig into love and work, with a generous side of midlife crises, in pre-pandemic LA. It shows how life can bring challenges in many different forms to people living within the city. Each perspective is different and their lives can change in different ways. Similar to Wedding Season there are multiple perspectives about the situation at hand and they try to figure it out together.
