Life by Ella (2022)
This Apple TV Plus series follows 13-year-old Ella, who, after a life-changing experience is eager to seize the day. As she learns to appreciate each moment, she faces the fears that once defined her — and encourages others to do the same. 10 episodes long, Life by Ella champions the small details in life, and will make the viewer appreciate the small challenges in their day-to-day.
Chad & JT Go Deep (2022)
In six episodes released on Netflix in 2022, best friends Chad & JT set out to spread positivity through Southern California and raise awareness on certain issues. Easily digestible with 20-minute episodes, Chad & JT Go Deep will probably sneak up on you and charm you in more ways than you initially expected. Much like Gutsy, it takes a light approach to activism and reduces it to simple conversations and fun activities with the hosts.
Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy (2021-)
This two-time Emmy winning series from CNN and Stanley Tucci follows the actor as he travels across Italy to discover the secrets and delights of the country’s regional cuisines. Much like Gutsy, it tries to bring some light to some less appreciated or at times ignored small details in life, by visiting a wide variety of places in Italy and meeting a lot of different people.
The Amber Ruffin show (2020-)
Spinned-off from Late Night With Seth Meyers, this unafraid and heartfelt show prioritizes a comedic take on the news over the somber tone of regular TV. Two seasons are currently streaming on Peacock, with a third one coming soon to the streaming service. Much like Gutsy, it is an attempt to raise awareness about certain issues that are particularly relevant to the relevant news of the time.
This might need a little context, as it will immediately stand out. But at the end of the day, Gutsy followed the Clintons trying to bring awareness to some of the biggest issues concerning women today, and how they are treated unfairly by society when compared to men. And, that is exactly what Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk is also trying to do, though instead of using the documentary series approach, and talking to people about their concerns, the writers use slightly exaggerated scenarios to bring a point home through fiction. It is definitely the most women-oriented show or movie Marvel has produced, and they are breaking the fourth wall in more than one way.
