Is Netflix’s Thai Cave Rescue based on a true story?
Yes, Thai Cave Rescue is based on a true story. On 23rd June 2018, a junior coach Eak, and his junior football team, the Wild Boars (Mark, Tee, Titan, Adul, Biw, Phong, Mix, Dom, Tle, Note, Nick, and Night), went traveling down into a cave. Unfortunately for them, there was a heavy storm, and the rainfall meant that they became trapped in that cave. Whilst initially, they were unable to make contact with the outside world, and therefore no one knew what happened, as the children’s parents became extremely worried, a quick investigation soon made it clear what had occurred.
After the recovery of the missing people’s items made it apparent that they were trapped in the cave, the local authorities started a mission to locate the trapped football team.
After a GoPro proved that they were still alive on the 2nd of July 2018, the clip went viral online. As a result, the event circulated around different news networks. And this helped ensure that there was a desperate rescue mission underway to help save the trapped boys. With impending storms meaning that there was a great risk to those trapped within the cave.
In total, the rescue mission meant there was help from a large number of people. More than 10,000 people helped with the mission. This included 2000 soldiers, 900 police officers, 100 divers, rescue workers, and representatives from over 100 government agencies. This and the large number of resources used meant that the rescue mission was extremely large.
Along the way, the football team used notes to keep in touch with their families. And this reassured their families that they were ok. And ultimately, it made everyone feel calmer until the rescue mission made it to its final stages.
