Set five years before the events of Rogue One, Disney+’s latest Star Wars original series, Andor, seems to function without the need for heavy-handed pandering and weaponized nostalgia. It’s a relatively grounded, serious, and slow-paced affair about a man finding meaning in a burgeoning rebellion after trying to carve out a hardscrabble existence within corporate authority and Imperial rule.

Andor season 1, episode 1-3 recap
- Cassian, looking for his sister, ended up killing a couple of Imperials, earning the ire of Deputy Inspector Syril Karn.
- Looking to sell some purloined Imperial tech to secure enough credits to get off-world, Cassian’s friend Bix agrees to set up a meeting with a middle-man.
- Scenes of a Kenari tribe threaten to be important as we also learn that Cassian is Kenari by birth.
- After some close calls, Cassian finally meets up with the potential buyer, Luthen, but learns he’s really trying to recruit him for the burgeoning rebellion. The two make off together at the end of the third episode.
