In the true story of Thai Cave Rescue, there are some tragic scenes. And as we’re witnessing events that actually happened, it makes the story really hit you in the heart. But none of the stories featured in Thai Cave Rescue is more tragic than that of Saman Kunan.
Whilst lives are at risk for much of the series; it is only Saman’s death that we witness in the six episodes. And for that reason, it’s very likely that the character will have profound effects on the audience.
Thai Cave Rescue – who is Saman Kunan?
Saman was a 37-year-old former Royal Thai Navy SEAL. He tragically dies in an effort to rescue the trapped boys. Whilst the series states that Saman died of unknown causes. However, a google search will state that he died of asphyxiation. Regardless of what actually happened, it’s a devastating case. And if his family watch the series, it will be difficult to watch for them. From the show, it’s very clear that Saman has a close and loving relationship with his wife, Meow.
What does Saman Kunan do in Thai Cave Rescue season 1?
After appearing in the fourth episode, Saman comes into the story after he gets calls regarding the Wild Boars and their coach Eak. In that phone call, Saman gets asked if he can help. Throughout his time on the cave site, he regularly contacts his wife, Meow.
In his final task, Saman delivers three air tanks to the trapped footballers. However, tragedy strikes on his swim back. He gets into some difficulty and loses consciousness. Despite efforts from the rescue team, Saman cannot be revived. It causes devastating effects.
However, Saman is not the only death to occur during the rescue mission. Although it isn’t covered in the series, there was a death a year after the boys were rescued from the cave. Beirut Pakbara, a Thai Navy SEAL, died due to a blood infection that he contracted whilst on the rescue operation.
