This article discusses whether there will be a The Perfumier 2, a sequel to the Netflix film The Perfumier, and will contain spoilers.
The Perfumier has just landed on Netflix and it’s focused on a police detective (played by Emilia Schüle) who teams up with a serial killer because she wants to regain her sense of smell. Written by German director, Nils Willbrandt, the film is only the latest adaptation of the famous novel Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. While it only just came out, the film’s IMDB rating doesn’t hold much promise of critical acclaim. Nor was it particularly well-liked by the critics here on RSC. Saying that, is a sequel for The Perfumier on the cards?
The Perfumier sequel potential release date
As the film came out nearly four years after the release of Perfume (2018), a Netflix show it’s tied into, we’re not expecting the sequel to come out too soon. At the earliest, it would probably be at least a couple of years before we can watch more of Sunny and Dorian’s adventures in the disturbing world of scents.
The Perfumier sequel cast – who might be in it?
It’s probably safe to say that both Ludwig Simon and Emilia Schüle could reprise their roles. Appearances from supporting cast members such as Sólveig Arnarsdóttir and Robert Finster would also make sense as their characters work at the same police station as Sunny. Who knows, we might even get another cameo from August Diehl.
The Perfumier sequel plot: what could The Perfumier 2 be about?
The new movie could be set a few years after the events in the first film. For a sequel to work, the installment would do well if it shifted the focus away from Sunny, and onto Dorian. It could follow his life in prison and show how unbearable he’s finding an existence without the sense of smell. As for Sunny, she could start visiting him in prison as a way of alleviating her guilt over the events in the first film. During these visits, Sunny and Dorian could develop a stronger bond, leading to them finding a way for him to regain his ability to take on scents. From then on, it’s a race against time as the killer finds his way out of prison and is ready to finish what he originally started.
