With a plot surrounding a plane hijacking, this Tamil and Telugu language action thriller is sure to keep you at the edge of your seat. The film received critical acclaim and was directed by Radha Mohan.

Chittagong (2012)

Like Jogi, this film is set at the height of another historical event known as the Chittagong Uprising. Written and directed by Bedabrata Pain the film tells the dramatic story of a group of people who dared to stand up to the British Empire and the consequences they had to face. 

Rudra Thandavam (2021)

This is probably the most controversial movie to come out of India in the past year. It follows a police detective played by Richard Rishi in his fight against drug dealers and a corrupt system. 

Death of a Doctor (1990)

Released over three decades ago, this movie is based on the life of Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay, the first Indian medical professional to develop an IVF method. The film gives a brutally honest portrayal of the corruption and struggles a medical pioneer had to deal with. 

Article 15 (2019)

Highly praised by critics, Article 15 is a crime thriller tackling the unfair caste system in India. Ayushmann Khurrana stars as a detective investigating a brutal crime committed in his small village as he discovers a conspiracy of caste-related discriminatory practices.

Released earlier this year, this film explores the events around the infamous assassination of British Inspector General N.S. Simpson by three revolutionaries. The historical drama set in the 1930s was directed by Arun Roy and stars Kinjal Nand, Arna Mukhopadhyay and Remo. 

Gold (2018)

The 1948 Summer Olympics were the first to have a Hockey Team from India compete. This film follows the trials and challenges members of the team faced in the run-up and during the event. 

Omerta (2017)

In this gripping biographical drama, Rajkumar Rao stars as the titular lead Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a man responsible for murder plots and the kidnapping of western tourists. The film delves deep into the thought process and motivations of a man who performed evil acts in the name of religion. 

Killing Veerappan (2016)

Killing Veerappan is an action-packed film that’s based on the real-life Operation Cocoon. Set in the early 90s, the film follows the police force as they’re trying to stop a murderous poacher who has been avoiding law enforcement for too long.
