This article discusses the possibility of Glitch Season 2 and the Netflix K-drama’s renewed or canceled status. It may contain minor spoilers.
With Netflix continuing to ride a wave of increased popularity for its South Korean output on the back of Squid Game’s success, the streamer has continued to drop original K-dramas in full with surprising frequency. And while these have ranged from straight-up remakes (Money Heist: Joint Economic Area) to Korean versions of genre classics (A Model Family, Narco-Saints), it’s the truly original stories that seem to enjoy the most success. Enter the latest: Glitch, a sci-fi comedy about UFOs, aliens, and religious cults that is proudly weird – sometimes to its own detriment.
But with ten episodes and a bevy of original ideas, as well as stars from recognizable works such as Vincenzo and All of Us Are Dead, this latest outing combines a conspiracist’s wet dream with an intriguing story of female friendship as Ji-hyo (Jeon Yeo-bin) teams up with her childhood friend and UFO obsessive Heo Bo-ra (Nana) to find out why her usually reliable boyfriend has disappeared.
It’s almost a certainty that the show will be popular, but will it return again in the future?
Renewed or canceled status – will there be a Glitch Season 2?
As ever, with the show only just having been released, Netflix hasn’t officially renewed or canceled it. They will likely wait to see the show’s impact before making that kind of decision. Money talks and viewership sells, after all, so it’ll be worth keeping an eye on whether the show manages to chart on a website such as Netflix Top 10.
If we were to speculate, though, I’d say that the chances of renewal are slim. While K-dramas are often popular on Netflix, they’re rarely renewed. Glitch seems to lend itself better to a continuation than most since the Glitch ending is ambiguous, but creatively it may still be preferable to keep it as a one-and-done affair and let the audience fill in the blanks for themselves.
When might Glitch Season 2 be released on Netflix?
This is purely speculation, of course, but assuming that Glitch does get renewed, I wouldn’t expect a hefty show like this to be filmed and finished too quickly. If the green light was given before the end of the year, and production took place in 2023, I’d suspect an early-mid 2024 release at a minimum – and that’s assuming the show gets renewed in the first place.
Glitch season 2 cast
Both Jeon Yeo-bin and Nana are essential to the first season’s narrative, and the show has also been marketed very obviously around them. I’d expect both to return. Everyone else would be less important and subject to the developments within the first season. (We have recaps of every episode if you’d like to know what those developments are.)
Given that the show has a strong theme of female friendship, you’d expect that to continue in the relationship between the two leads.
