This article discusses 7 films like My Best Friend’s Exorcism you must watch.

Based on the popular novel of the same name by Grady Hendrix, My Best Friend’s Exorcism is a vaguely scary, vaguely funny, and ultimately forgettable diversion in the horror movie season. However, if you enjoy this combination of horror and comedy, or you just really like exorcism stories, here are 7 films to check out.

7 films like My Best Friend’s Exorcism you must watch

The Exorcist (1973)

Of course, this has to be on the list…it’s not only the grandfather of all exorcism stories, it’s perhaps the greatest and scariest horror movie ever to be made. The Exorcist is one of the only horror movies to be nominated for Best Picture in the Academy Awards and made an astonishing $440 million at the box office. Do yourself a favor, and watch it if you haven’t already.

Freaky (2020)

It’s probably more funny than scary, but that doesn’t make this Freaky Friday-inspired slasher any less of a good time. Vince Vaughn steals the show in Freaky.

The Cabin in the Woods (2012)

Not since Scream has a film so perfectly blended comedy and horror. The Cabin in the Woods is a brilliant deconstruction of the genre that is also extraordinarily entertaining. There is a scope and ambition in this film that is rarely seen in the horror catalog.

Happy Death Day (2017)

If you can’t get enough of alternating between laughing and screaming, here’s another one for you. Well-acted and sharply written, Happy Death Day is what happens when you cross Groundhog Day with Halloween.

Evil Dead 2 (1987)

This is one of the first horror films to effectively combine horror with comedy and remains one of the best to this day. Evil Dead 2 is wild, inventive, violent, and did I say wild? And Ash Williams might just be the best horror protagonist of all time.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)

With a strong cast and great production values, The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a worthwhile, if not particularly scary, entry in the exorcism canon.

Little Evil (2017)

Little Evil is not as funny or as scary as it could have been, but this horror/comedy features a great performance from Adam Scott and is a fun parody of The Omen.
