This article discusses the Amazon Prime Video series The Peripheral, including the release date, time, plot synopsis, cast, and trailer.
Later this month, Prime Video is bringing us a brand new series in the form of The Peripheral. The show looks set to be something pretty impressive! With its stacked cast and backing from the same creators as HBO’s Westworld, The Peripheral appears to be of fine pedigree. And, with little to nothing of a dystopian flavor on our screens currently, it could be said that the show doesn’t face too much competition when it comes to winning over fans of that sort of thing. Prime Video has a pretty good track record when it comes to its original series, so there’s definitely a lot going for The Peripheral.
Let’s take a close look at The Peripheral.
Prime Video series The Peripheral plot synopsis
Here is the official plot synopsis:
“Stuck in a small Appalachian town, a young woman’s only escape from the daily grind is playing advanced video games. She is such a good player that a company sends her a new video game system to test…but it has a surprise in store. It unlocks all of her dreams of finding a purpose, romance, and glamour in what seems like a game…but it also puts her and her family in real danger.”
Our opinion of the premise
The Peripheral definitely sounds different, let’s put it that way. For me, it sounds like it could be quite high-level viewing; sci-fi fans are likely to love it but potentially – if it gets a little too into stereotypically technical territory that shows of this nature can occasionally do – it could lose a few people. An additional concern is that it could aim for a more adolescent audience. My initial impression upon reading the premise was that it sounds like it could stray slightly into Wreck It Ralph territory, but for an older demographic. I really couldn’t predict how this one could turn out.
The Peripheral release date
The series will be released globally on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, October 21st, at 12 am PT. It will be an eight-part series, with a new episode every Friday until 9th December 2022.
How to watch The Peripheral online
Audiences will be able to watch The Peripheral with a subscription to Amazon Prime Video. The subscription plan for Amazon Price costs $14.99 a month or $139 a year. The subscription to Prime gives you access to Prime Video.

There sure is! Check it out below:
The Peripheral sounds like something Prime Video has a lot of faith in. Alongside everything else mentioned in this article, the show has also been in development since 2018, so has been a long time coming. Given these, plus the success of the novel upon which the show is based, some might say it’s all there to lose. It will be interesting to see how it turns out, and luckily, we won’t have to wait too long now.
