This article discusses the Hulu docuseries The Hair Tales, including the release date, time, official premise, cast, and trailer.

Later this month, a brand new docuseries is set to land on the streaming service Hulu. The Hair Tales will take a look at Black hair and the role it plays in people’s identity, as well as the role it plays in one’s sense of self. The series has been put together by Michaela Angela Davis, a journalist of over thirty years with some very impressive credentials, including having a part in the creation of Mariah Carey’s memoir. Alongside Davis, the creative team behind the series is comprised entirely of women of colour, suggesting that great care has been taken to ensure the authenticity of every aspect of the series.

Let’s take a closer look at The Hair Tales:

Hulu documentary series The Hair Tales premise

Here is the official premise:

“The Hair Tales is a dynamic celebration of Black women’s identity, beauty, culture and humanity, uniquely expressed through the stories in our hair. A docuseries where six diverse phenomenal women – Issa Rae, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, CHIKA, Marsai Martin, Chloe Bailey and Oprah Winfrey lay their intimate hair tales on the table with Tracee Ellis Ross. Surrounded by brilliant voices of academic and cultural leaders, gifted hairdressers, and extraordinary sisters, the series presents a collage of resilience, style and purpose.”

Our opinion of the premise

Hair plays a huge role in the identity of Black women, and it has been enlightening to learn of its significance in recent years through retellings of different women’s experiences from all walks of life. However, to now be presented with a docuseries that will not only potentially educate, but also place a huge emphasis on celebrating that hair and all that it symbolises, is phenomenal, and will surely prove to be a fascinating watch.

The Hair Tales release date

The documentary series will premiere on Hulu and OWN on Saturday, October 22nd, at 12 am PT.

There sure is! Check it out below:

It would appear that a lot of care and attention has gone into making sure that The Hair Tales is an inviting discussion that all can take part in. The inclusion of Black women from a range of generations and backgrounds looks like great effort has been taken to cover all bases, and suggests that the topic could be a real unifier of all those involved. The Hair Tales has pretty sound provenance owing to Davis’ involvement as well, so all in all looks like it will be a very worthwhile watch.

To Tracey and Oprah, I am Vanessa Harper, been in the haircare industry 30+ years Hair Tale is outstanding. I have always dreamed of doing a documentary based on challenges women have with their hair, also the discoveries God has shared over the years. I would love to be a part of your movement when given the opportunity. I would like to share some experiences and observations that can help women around the world. Thank you in advance
