This article discusses whether there will be a season 2 of the HBO Max series House of the Dragon and its renewed or cancelled status.
House of the Dragon has proven to be a great season. While there were many concerns after the widely criticized final season of Game of Thrones, the spin-off showed that it meant business with its first episode. From savage deaths to tragic downfalls and deaths that we all saw coming yet didn’t occur until much later in the show, it was a great season for amazing deaths.
Plus, with several time jumps along the way, there were a lot of stories in just 10 episodes. It’s clear the Game of Thrones is back on. And this time, everyone means business. Not only that, but it’s well-received. And some are even wondering if the show is going to prove itself as being even better than Game of Thrones. As for that, I think House of the Dragon needs more seasons before we can fairly judge.
The show was quite a while in the making, and with the season finale coming on the 23rd of October, 2022, it might be a while if we even get a second season. But what do you think will happen? Think the HBO Max show will return for a second season?
Will there be a season 2 of the HBO Max series House of the Dragon – renewed or cancelled status
It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but the show is obviously being renewed for a second season. Not only are the fans loving it, but it’s been a rating smash. In fact, the show was renewed for a second season just 5 days after the pilot episode. So, it seems that despite the high level of negative thoughts toward the Game of Thrones finale, there’s still a lot of love for the world of Westeros.
But while it is definitely coming back, it might not look or feel the same. That is because the showrunner and executive producer Miguel Sapochnik has decided to leave after the first season. While the reasons are still unclear, it may suggest that there could be creative changes in the flow of House of the Dragon.
As for the cast members, anyone who survives the season finale is likely to return for the second season. But as the finale is still yet to air, literally anyone could get the chop. Therefore it’s hard to truly guess who could return. But as Ned Stark’s death in the first season of Game of Thrones showed, it’s the show that the fans return for, not just the characters/actors.
But will anyone from Game of Thrones return? While House of the Dragon takes place 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, a descendant of the eponymous royal house, and 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms is united by the Targaryen, there is one character who could physically return: Melisandre! She was revealed in the original show to be several hundred years old. So you never know. Maybe she’ll pop up. But what would her reasons be for returning?
