We discuss whether there will be a season 2 of the Prime Video series The Devil’s Hour and its renewed or cancelled status.

The Devil’s Hour is a six-part series from Prime Video, created by Tom Moran (Wild Bill), with an executive producer credit for Steven Moffat, the brains behind the Doctor Who reimaging and the latest incarnation of Dracula. This chilling thriller stars Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who and The Suicide Squad) as a mysterious individual who seems to be the prime suspect in a brutal killing spree in the local area. A struggling mother called Lucy Chambers finds herself caught up in all this chaos as well while she attempts to singlehandedly raise her creepy son Isaac, who sees imaginary people roaming their home.

The criminal case is told from the police’s point of view, with DI Ravi Dhillon and DS Nick Holness leading the investigation. While there’s also another subplot set in the not-too-distant future, where Lucy (played by Jessica Raine) and Gideon converse in an interrogation room. Gideon speaks in riddles, dropping hints about a much larger conspiracy at play.

This is a well-made and intriguing watch. It is professionally acted, with some foreboding tension and the odd jump scare. Those first two episodes do a great job of slowly building the suspense and setting the scene for this atmospheric narrative. It all makes for a series that you’ll be eager to binge-watch in one sitting this Halloween.

Viewers who enjoyed this fascinating thriller will be interested to know if this is a one-off miniseries or if there is room for a follow-up season and a chance to explore this dark world again in more detail at a later date. So, let’s see if Prime Video will be renewing the show for a second season.

Will there be a season 2 of the Prime Video series The Devil’s Hour – renewed or cancelled status

Update on October 28th, 2022

The renewal status of The Devil’s Hour is still pending at Prime Video headquarters. Just like Netflix, Prime Video can be quite cutthroat when it comes to renewing or (more appropriately) canceling well-loved shows at their respective companies. Prime Video has already chosen not to renew Night Sky or Paper Girls, which both debuted in 2022 and had their fair share of devoted fan bases. Although they aren’t completely against the idea, they were eager to renew The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and The Summer I Turned Pretty, but spent a while debating over Outer Range’s future.

I haven’t been able to watch the entirety of the series just yet (only two episodes were released to critics), but I think this show has the overall feel of a one-off miniseries. I may be wrong, but I’m going to surmise that this will not be renewed for a second season, even if it is a successful show for Prime Video. It has become a staple of modern TV to leave shows opened ended though, so the finale of The Devil’s Hour may still hint at more stories to come. The plot itself does seem to have an expansive nature to it and could quite easily run for numerous years. As always, we’ll keep you posted on any updates in the pending renewal of The Devil’s Hour.

Update on December 16th, 2022 – Amazon has confirmed that The Devil’s Hour has been renewed for two more seasons.
