This article is a preview for Titans season 4, episode 3 and contains details of the release date, time, and where to watch online. It also contains spoilers for previous episodes and seasons.

Beginning life on the now-defunct DC Universe streaming platform, Titans began as a very controversial proposition — a deliberately edgy take on DC’s teeny-bopper super-team infamously marketed around Dick Grayson saying “F*ck Batman” in the trailer — but has since cemented its identity as a very decent and rather unconventional series. The third season, which was housed on HBO Max, dealt with everything from a murderous Batman to a pot-smoking Scarecrow to the literal afterlife, and the fourth season seems intent to top even that by pivoting rather explicitly into horror territory and working through a story involving the sinister, otherworldly Church of Blood.

Here’s what happened in Titans season 4, episode 1, and Titans season 4, episode 2:

  • Superman invited Conner to meet him at S.T.A.R. Labs in Metropolis, but turned out not to be available. However, Lex Luthor also wanted to meet Conner, who agreed.
  • Lex told Conner he was dying of kryptonite poisoning and only had six months to live. He asked Conner to stay with him to try and imprint some of himself on his son so that he might one day vicariously achieve his goal of being both man and superman.
  • Lex was killed when a snake climbed out of his neck, and Conner was briefly blamed and arrested for the murder.
  • The other Titans investigated and uncovered that Lex had turned to occultism to try and stave off his impending demise. He had particularly annoyed a woman named May Bennett, aka Mother Mayhem.
  • Mother Mayhem and a lonely, eccentric videogame designer named Sebastian are both connected in some way via a blood cult.
  • At the end of the second episode, Mother Mayhem confronted the Titans, leaving Rachel with the gemstone in her forehead destroyed and her hair white, presumably having been stripped of her powers.

Predictions for Titans season 4, episode 3:

  • Has Raven lost her powers? It certainly seems so, and since magic is the main issue here, that can’t bode well.
  • I think Conner’s arc this season is going to be embracing the Luthor side of his DNA, so expect that to continue.
  • How is Gar linked to everything? He seems to be the only one privy to the visions and voices, and then there’s his unexplained blackout at S.T.A.R. Labs.
  • I doubt Titus Welliver would only be hired for one episode, so I fully expect to see more of his Lex.
  • Starfire learning to manage her new power will probably be the only way to combat Mother Mayhem’s magic.
