We recap the HBO Max series Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler season 3, episode 10, “Highland Wedding,” which contains spoilers and explains the ending.

The season finale is finally here. It’s been a mixed bag of episodes in the third season, but with the way the previous episode ended, it looks like this episode could be a winner.

Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler season 3, episode 10 recap

The final episode of the third season of Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler begins with Alfie and Sandra running through the streets as a mob chases them. The show then cuts to earlier that day. After chilling at home, Alfie learns that Lucius is in a spot of bother. Martha wants to help him, but the Prime Minister and Thomas aren’t thrilled at the prospect of Martha placing herself in danger. But she won’t be doing it alone as Alfie will help her.

Dave and Sally learn that the milk has been infected with the same drug that caused everyone to go crazy. Meanwhile, Alfie and Martha break their way into access 7. They demand that Lucius is freed. As the prison becomes controlled by civilians, the Prime Minister learns that the city is having a mental health crisis. But then it becomes clear that the Prime Minister is under the influence of the same drug. After Alfie and Martha free Lucius, he insists on releasing Bet and the other prisoners.

When they leave the prisoner, the lullaby is clearly in effect. And Alfie immediately worries for Sandra and his unborn child. Despite his concern, Sandra refuses to go anywhere with him. Until crazed individuals storm into her flat and attempt to kill her, that is. Then, as the world seems to go to sh*t, Lucius and Bet arrive with the escaped prisoners. Are they about to save the day? As Alfie and Sandra flee from the lunatics, Sandra refuses to go anywhere until Alfie starts being honest with her. So, despite the overwhelming danger nearing them, Alfie has to sit Sandra down and tell her about her past relationship with Zahra.

As the world continues to go downhill, Peggy wakes up to find Bet beside her. They catch up, and Bet tells Peggy she killed Jon Salt. Weirdly, but rather fittingly for the world of Pennyworth: The Origins of Batman’s Butler, there’s a performance of I Will Survive. Despite the upbeat performance, Alfie interrupts it with a potential plan to survive the latest going on. He then publically proposes to Sandra and asks if they can get married that very day. She accepts.

The joyous moment comes to a sharp end when a bunch of lunatics enters the pub. The finale of SHOW NAME ends with most of the key characters present as Alfie and Sandra prepare to marry. It stuns all of the characters into silence, and the show then ends!
