We discuss the Netflix K-Drama series Somebody, including the release date, time, plot synopsis, cast, and trailer.

Loosely based on the book American Psycho by Brett Easton EllisSomebody was created by Han Ji-wan (The Ghost Detective), and it first premiered at the Busan International Film Festival last month. On the 18th of November, the highly-anticipated K-Drama is coming to Netflix. Starring Kim Young-kwang (best known for The Secret Life of My Secretary) and Kang Hae-lim (Govengers), the show centers on a series of murders related to a popular dating app. Here’s all we know about this newest crime drama from South Korea.

K-Drama Somebody plot synopsis

Here is the official plot synopsis:

Sum is a developer for the social connecting app “Somebody.” Even though she has difficulty communicating with other people, she is friends with Mok Won and Ki Eun. Her friend Ki Eun works as a detective. A murder takes place and the app “Somebody” is involved in the murder case. Architectural designer Yoon O appears in front of Sum and her friends. Yoon O is an attractive man, but he seems to be hiding something. Meanwhile, Ki Eun investigates the murder case with help of Mok Won.

Our opinion of the premise

Somebody promises to be a thrilling viewing experience. We wouldn’t expect any less from a series based on Brett Easton Ellis’s novel, but with a twist. In the novel and the 2000 movie, the titular psycho committed atrocities all by himself and had to rely on antiquated methods of finding dates (read: victims). In this K-Drama, the serial killer can choose his prey from the comfort of his own home by using a dating app and seems to attract the attention of a software developer who may be just as unhinged as him. Another change from the source material is the villain’s occupation. Patrick Bateman was a banker, but in this adaptation, it seems like our main antagonist is a successful architect.

Is there a trailer for the K-Drama Somebody?

There sure is! Check it out below:

The exciting trailer sets the bar high for this crime thriller. It appears the narrative is centered on a love story between two very dangerous people. Considering how the main villain is loosely based on the character of Patrick Bateman, it will be interesting to watch a reimagining of the story. But this time, the psycho found his one true love, someone just like him. All thanks to online dating. Based on the trailer, Somebody looks like the perfect series to binge on Friday night with a glass of wine. We can’t think of a better way to start the weekend!
