Why was Firefly Lane cancelled for season 3? We delve into Netflix’s decision and detail why they decided not to continue with the show.

Netflix is bringing back Firefly Lane for two parts of the show’s second season. We have the first half of the season to be released on December 2, 2022, and the latter part is scheduled for release sometime in 2023. Below we share all the details surrounding why the series was cancelled, when you can watch it and whether or not any streaming platforms will pick the show up.

Will there be a season 3 of Firefly Lane?

Netflix announced that the second Firefly Lane season would be the series last season. The plan is to have a two-part season 2 with a total of 16 episodes, with part 1 debuting in December 2022 and part 2 in 2023 (date yet not announced).

Is Firefly Lane coming back in 2022?

Yes, the second season of Firefly Lane is set to return on December 2, 2022. The show’s return sees the debut of nine episodes that will drop at 3:00 AM ET. We have returning cast members Katherine Heigl as Tully, Sarah Chalke as Kate, and Ben Lawsone as Johnny. With some new additions to the cast in Greg Germann, Jolen Purdy, and India de Beaufort.

Season 2 is set to pick up shortly after season 1 ended, where we saw the big falling out between Kate and Tully. The biggest question that needs to be answered is what was the reason behind the falling out. How they lay that out will remain to be seen as it will vary from what people read from the books. However, one thing is for sure, since the series is heading into its last episodes, I expect that part one finale to be filled with one big cliffhanger.

Why was Firefly Lane cancelled for season 3?

Netflix announced ahead of Firefly Lane season 2 that it would be the final season of the show. Season 1 of the series saw massive global success with audiences, making it the most-watched show for two weeks when it debuted. It went on to be watched by close to 50 million households. Through our research, we haven’t found anything concrete to their decision. The only thing Netflix did was divide season 2 into two parts.

Will another streaming service or network pick up Firefly Lane?

Can we confirm whether or not a streaming service or network will pick up Firefly Lane? Unfortunately, no, we can’t. However, as we mentioned, with the audiences tuning into the series and it being well-received on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, if the second season were to have some success, it isn’t out of the question to see another streaming service pick up the series. So if series creator Maggie Friedman has more stories to flesh out from Kristin Hannah’s novel and Heigl and Chalke would be on board, nothing is out of the question. If anything were to change regarding this, we will be sure to let you know.
